ReachUp! North Cultural Modules - The Medicine Wheel

Workshop description:

To discuss traditional interpretations into youth skills and perspectives. How young people see their role in today's society while honouring sacred teachings. This workshop will focus on the story of A7G (Assembly of Se7en Generations) and how this group of Indigenous youth are using their skills for the betterment of their peers.

The Medicine Wheel walks participants through a diverse range of medicine wheel teachings from across Turtle Island to help develop a strengthened personal and cultural identity.

 

 

Family Violence and Sexual Abuse

Workshop description: 

 

This one day presentation will examine the power dynamics in relation to family violence and sexual abuse. Participants will understand the concept of “powerless rage” and “traumatic bonding” and thus, will learn strategies in dealing with these issues.

Health Care and Social Services Clinic for urban Aboriginal (Minowé and Akogan)

                       (LaTuque Native Friendship Centre)

 

Workshop description:

Presentation of a social innovation project in health and social services supported by the Regroupement des Centres d’Amitié Autochtone du Québec (RCAAQ). To this day, two clinics exist in Quebec in Val-d'Or and La Tuque where there is a Native Friendship Centre. The next two sites will be in Saguenay and in Montreal. In this workshop, success factors for Montreal will be demonstrated with concrete indicators. These prevention workshops will benefit to Natives and partners since the subject will be connected with personalised suicide prevention approaches.

Bullying among the Youth

A workshop that presents a video on bullying among youth in school:

·         Reality and how to deal with this phenomenon

·         Direct impact on youth

·         Awareness among the youth

·         Breaking the silence in order to raise awareness and prevent suicide risks

·         Importance of taking a protective action with youth participation

 

This short video is followed by a time of discussion and sharing that allows participants to create links to strengthen the dialogue with youth in our communities

Exeko works in collaboration with the First Nation communities for the well-being. Presentation of the programs idAction, idAction mobile and Trickster for First Nations Youth.
